We swung by the Stroud Show and Rodeo on the weekend. We love to visit each year and partake in a bit of country fun. Miss Seven and her little country mate Miss Four entered, for the first time, the biscuit decorating competition. Miss Four took out second place, no less, and won a red ribbon, a certificate and all of $3 dollars. Miss Seven also entered the under 10 years coconut ice competition. She made the coconut ice all by herself and she won a highly commended ribbon. Nice one ladies. These pair are going to give those hardcore CWA(Country Women's Association) women a run for their money.
So it's been a while, but the craft or more accurately the DIY has kept me busy. I haven't got a good pic yet, but I've been revamping my new material cupboard, which was kindly donated to the cause by a sympathetic craft lover, thanks Zoe. In the meantime. I'm gearing up to do a shop update. So here are a couple of wares up for grabs in the next day or two from my madeit shop. So pop over to the left of the page to my shoplink. I've also been knocking out a few cake toppers which I've been pretty happy with. These cake toppers look big, but they're photographed on mini cupcakes. And, yes those skirts were a pain to pull through the hole I punched in the paper.
Project Daybed got up and running a couple of weeks ago when the cold weather set in and we decided to take advantage of the one and only spot in our house that has sun throughout winter, our courtyard. Big plans were made and trips to the antique shops ensued. When nothing eventuated, voila - a plan was hatched. Miss Seven had a trundle bed she wasn't using so I used that as a base to make the daybed. The first thing I did was to put six wooden legs on the trundle. I then constructed the arms out of wood I had found on the side of the road, a couple of council pickups ago and cut these into a lovely curve that is just perfect for resting your head with a pillow underneath. We bought a long plank of wood for the back which I drew a design into and then cut it out using my handy dandy jigsaw. We then painted it a mexicana blue colour and we all love it. I think the first warm bodies on it included Jessie, the dog and Jobson, the cat. More cushions to come on the bed - stay tuned. The queenie stamp is my latest in my range of pillows.
Ahoy there me hearties. I helped my sister with some illustrations, little flags, waves and party bags on this party. It was a great success. The birthday boy loved it and so did we.
Today I got busy on the scarf making for the upcoming cold months. It was chilly today, our first for the year. I know 20 degrees may sound nice to some, but that's just cold business in my parts. I got some super sweet fabrics from Sydney last week and hit the sewing machine immediately on my return. I'm loving these scarves which both adult and kid can snuggle into.
Here is my first screen I made. I've since reclaimed it as I perfected my exposure technique and exposed this screen again.(see above print on skirt) It still printed quite well though. (see below)
I finished the screen printing course a couple of weeks ago now and have been drawing and printing ever since - hence the blogging break to create. The course was so fantastic and I would highly recommend it to any person wanting to D.I.Y. their own designs onto fabric. The course covered everything you need to know from creating your own screens using photo emulsion, exposing your screens in the sun using vacuum bags and clever tricks when printing. It was a full day course and the lovely Shivaun could not have been more helpful. So if you're interested go and visit 
How cool would it be to design stamps? In my books - the coolest. I was an avid stamp collector as a kid and used to pore over all the little details of the stamp. I loved all the overseas stamps with their different money symbols. I wished I'd kept up with collecting, but alas the barbie took their place. I designed this group of stamps with screenprinting in mind. Oh, the excitement. I'm off to do my screenprinting course this weekend. I thought I'd go a bit nuts with colour on these and had a great time experimenting. I'll show and tell on Monday all about my adventures doing photo emulsion screenprinting.
Cutie patootie baby blankie. This prototype was created last week after a friend/one of my best customers asked for something for a new baby. I've been thinking about making a security blanket for quite a while and after doing the Evie illustration with her blankie, voila here is my version. I was feeling a bit fancy pants and even embroidered her name on the inside of the blankie. I just love the blanket folded as it looks like the dolly has gone to bed.
